Invited Speaker – Hong Kong Flower Show

I was the invited speaker to the Hong Kong Flower Show in May 2015 to give a three hour presentation and discussion session titled ‘Alternative Approaches to the Sustainable Management of the Urban Forest’. In addition to this presentation I was invited by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of the Hong Kong Government to give a presentation titled ‘The importance of accurate diagnosis and precise monitoring to sustainably manage urban forests’.

During my visit I visited several declining heritage and significant trees to provide some insight as to what may be causing the premature decline of these magnificent trees. A brief side visit to Macau enabled me to meet government personnel and present on a similar topic, visit several sites throughout the Macau urban forest, and discuss sustainable management techniques. This was my 8th visit to Hong Kong and as always I find it incredibly stimulating and enjoyable. What a wonderful city with a dense population surrounded by abundant green spaces and intermingled with some outstanding Old and Valuable Trees (OVTs).

I look forward to my next visit.
