Dr Mark Garkaklis is one of Australia’s most experienced ecologists who has a detailed understanding of remote sensing and the use of this data for sustainable land management. Mark has developed and implemented state-wide nature conservation policy working on State of the Environment. Mark’s first introduction to remote sensing was in 2002 using time-series change imagery from satellite to investigate the causes of woodland decline. Mark developed guidelines for the application of remote-sensing for the Western Australian Department of Environment & Conservation (now DBCA) under the National Native Vegetation Integrity projects. Mark has recently moved to Victoria to establish the ArborCarbon Victorian office.
